West Midlands Blitz Golf League at Gaudet Luce
Watching traditional golf is great, but let’s be honest, spending six hours (or more) walking around a course isn't everyone's cup of tea. Welcome, Blitz Golf, the lightning-fast, high-stakes tournament format that just made its massive West Midlands debut right here at Gaudet Luce Golf Club in Droitwich.
If you weren't there, you missed on an afternoon of pure fun, live DJs, big crowds, entertaining activations and what turned out to be a history making moment for Blitz.
Here is exactly how it all unfolded, and how England's own OJ Farrell rose above to take home the crown.
Historic moment in Blitz Golf history
The tournament structure is designed to be brutal, but the West Midlands event took the drama to an entirely new level.
To narrow the field down to the final four, we entered into the biggest nearest-the-pin shootout in Blitz Golf history. Eight players stood at the shootout zone, trying to hold their nerves under the pressure. We then saw OJ Farrell, Danial Gale, Jack Bidmead and Jordan Wrisdale make it through to Round 3, the final.
It all came down to one chip!
The final round could have been a straightforward shootout, best score wins. But Blitz Golf is never straightforward.
After the final hole was played, the top spots were still deadlocked. Players returned to the tee to replay the stadium hole, with 3 players still tied. With the tournament tied, the entire event came down to one final, sudden-death nearest-the-pin shootout on the 18th.
With a DJ playing full blast, fans cheering and a sense of tension in the air as well as excitement. England’s very own OJ Farrell held his cool and chipped to just a few feet. Meaning he walked away with the Blitz Golf West Midlands title.
A New Era for Local Golf
We are proud to say that Gaudet Luce proved to be the absolute perfect venue for an event like this. With the ability to showcase our progressive approach to the game, we transformed seamlessly into a Blitz Golf tournament venue. Blitz Golf shown us all that when you strip away the stuffy traditions, pump up the volume, and provide good entertainment, golf becomes one of the best spectator sports on the planet. And we’re sure that you would agree.
A massive thank you goes out to all of our volunteers and staff for their hard work in bringing this event to life, and to our wonderful members, both those who joined us in the crowds to create an unforgettable stadium atmosphere, and the wider membership whose continued support makes Gaudet Luce a club that world-class events are proud to partner with.
Congratulations to OJ Farrell on an unbelievable win!
Traditional golf just got a serious makeover. Gaudet Luce recently transformed into a high-energy arena for the West Midlands debut of Blitz Golf, bringing together elite pros, celebrities, online personalities, sports icons, and a fantastic crowd for a brand new knockout style entertainment event.
